Press release: Statement on Asad regime’s recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia as independent states
Foreign Office Minister Sir Alan Duncan said:
It is utterly unacceptable that the Asad regime has recognised the so-called “independence” of the breakaway Georgian territories of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
The Russian military intervention in Georgia in 2008 and its subsequent recognition of the breakaway territories of South Ossetia and Abkhazia as so-called “independent states” was an unacceptable violation of the sovereign rights of Georgia. Russia’s actions continue to undermine Georgia’s rightful territorial integrity.
This move will do nothing to bring peace closer. Once again, both the Syrian regime and Russia are aggressively trying to undermine the rules-based international order.
The British Government reiterates its full support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Georgia and to UN Security Council Resolution 1808 which reaffirms the commitment of all Member States to the sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Georgia within its internationally recognised borders.

The British Nationality (The Gambia) Order 2018
Article 2 of this Order adds The Gambia to Schedule 3 to the British Nationality Act 1981, with the result that citizens of The Gambia shall have the status of Commonwealth citizens.

The European Communities (Designation) Order 2018
In England, Wales and Northern Ireland, only “designated” Ministers and departments can exercise powers in section 2(2) of the European Communities Act 1972 (c.68) to make orders, rules, regulations and schemes. This is one of a series of Orders by which the Ministers and departments are designated for the purposes of section 2(2) in relation to different subject areas.

The Scotland Act 1998 (Agency Arrangements) (Specification) Order 2018
The Order paves the way for the Scottish Government and UK Government to enter into agency arrangements, under which the UK Government can exercise certain social security functions on behalf of the Scottish Government. Any such arrangements would require to be agreed between the UK Government and the Scottish Government.

The Air Navigation (Amendment) Order 2018
This Order amends provisions of the Air Navigation Order 2016 (S.I. 2016/765) (“the 2016 Order”), in particular in relation to small unmanned aircraft. “Small unmanned aircraft” is defined in Schedule 1 to that Order and includes the type of aircraft commonly known as small drones.
