These Regulations are made in exercise of the powers conferred by section 8(1) of the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 in order to address deficiencies in retained EU law arising from the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (“the EU”). The deficiencies fall within section 8(2)(g) and (3)(a) of that Act.

This Order amends the Burma (Sanctions) (Overseas Territories) Order 2013 (S.I. 2013/1447) and gives effect in specified Overseas Territories to sanctions measures adopted by the European Union in Council Decision (CFSP) 2018/655, which was adopted on 26th April 2018, and Council Regulation (EU) 2018/647, which was also adopted on 26th April 2018.

This Order gives effect in specified Overseas Territories to the sanctions regime created by the European Union in Council Decision (CFSP) 2018/1544 of 15th October 2018 concerning restrictive measures against the proliferation and use of chemical weapons and in Council Regulation (EU) 2018/1542 of 15th October 2018 concerning restrictive measures against the proliferation and use of chemical weapons.
