The Local Government (Miscellaneous Amendments) (EU Exit) Regulations 2018

These Regulations, other than regulation 3, are made in exercise of the powers conferred by section 8(1) of the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 (c. 16) in order to address failures of retained EU law to operate effectively and other deficiencies (in particular under paragraphs (a), (c) and (d) of section 8(2)) arising from the withdrawal of the UK from the European Union. Regulation 3 is made under the Local Government Finance Act 1988.

The Misuse of Drugs and Misuse of Drugs (Safe Custody) (Amendment) (England and Wales and Scotland) Regulations 2018

These Regulations amend the Misuse of Drugs Regulations 2001 (S.I. 2001/3998) (the “2001 Regulations”) and the Misuse of Drugs (Safe Custody) Regulations 1973 (S.I. 1973/798) (the “1973 Regulations”).

The Weighing and Measuring Equipment and Meters (Amendment of Secondary Legislation) (EU Exit) Regulations 2018

These Regulations are made in exercise of the powers conferred by section 8(1) of the European Union (Withdrawal) Act 2018 in order to address deficiencies in retained EU law arising from the withdrawal of the United Kingdom from the European Union (“the EU”). The deficiencies fall within section 8(2)(g) and (3)(a) of that Act.

The Burma and Somalia (Sanctions) (Overseas Territories) (Amendment) Order 2018

This Order amends the Burma (Sanctions) (Overseas Territories) Order 2013 (S.I. 2013/1447) and gives effect in specified Overseas Territories to sanctions measures adopted by the European Union in Council Decision (CFSP) 2018/655, which was adopted on 26th April 2018, and Council Regulation (EU) 2018/647, which was also adopted on 26th April 2018.

The Chemical Weapons (Sanctions) (Overseas Territories) Order 2018

This Order gives effect in specified Overseas Territories to the sanctions regime created by the European Union in Council Decision (CFSP) 2018/1544 of 15th October 2018 concerning restrictive measures against the proliferation and use of chemical weapons and in Council Regulation (EU) 2018/1542 of 15th October 2018 concerning restrictive measures against the proliferation and use of chemical weapons.

The Extraterritorial US Legislation (Sanctions against Cuba, Iran and Libya) (Protection of Trading Interests) (Amendment) Order 2018

Criminal offences in respect of breaches by United Kingdom entities and nationals of Council Regulation (EC) No.2271/96 protecting against the effects of the extraterritorial application of legislation adopted by a third country, and actions based thereon or resulting therefrom (OJ No. L 309, 29.11.1996, p.1) (“the Regulation”) were created by the Extraterritorial US Legislation (Sanctions against Cuba, Iran and Libya) (Protection of Trading Interests) Order 1996 (S.I. 1996/3171).

The Investigatory Powers Act 2016 (Commencement No. 10 and Transitional Provision) Regulations 2018

These Regulations bring section 242 of the Investigatory Powers Act 2016 (c. 25) into force on 31 December 2018. Section 242 inserts section 67A into the Regulation of Investigatory Powers Act 2000 (c. 23) which provides for a right of appeal on a point of law against decisions and determinations made by the Investigatory Powers Tribunal. The appeal is to the Court of Appeal in England or Wales or the Court of Session in Scotland, whichever the Tribunal considers more appropriate.

The Somerset West and Taunton (Electoral Changes) Order 2018

This Order makes changes to electoral arrangements for Somerset West and Taunton following recommendations made by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England. Somerset West and Taunton is established as an authority, with effect from 1st April 2019, by virtue of the Somerset West and Taunton (Local Government Changes) Order 2018 (S.I. 2018/649). The changes made by this Order apply in respect of local government elections held on and after the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2019.

The West Suffolk (Electoral Changes) Order 2018

This Order makes changes to electoral arrangements for West Suffolk following recommendations made by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England. West Suffolk is established as an authority, with effect from 1st April 2019, by virtue of the West Suffolk (Local Government Changes) Order 2018 (S.I. 2018/639). The changes made by this Order apply in respect of local government elections held on and after the ordinary day of election of councillors in 2019.
